Fly fishing on the Wind and Bighorn Rivers have been fantastic lately! Big water flows, big bugs, and BIG fish! We had a great day yesterday with several large fish caught on big streamers. Fish are holding in soft waters and pushed up against the banks. Our high water flows are not disrupting the fishing too much, and with the right timing, fishing has been very productive. Warm and dry weather is on the forecast, and we are fishing one of the great Wyoming tail-waters in two days. Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming : Fishing Report

Baetis hatch on the Bighorn River

Drift boat fished the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming yesterday with Gabe Harris from Lander. As predicted, the baetis hatch was in full swing by the afternoon. We floated from Wedding of the Waters to Hot Springs State Park and had a great day.

We caught nice big Rainbows and Yellowstone Cutthroat trout on baetis patterns. The river is twice as big as last month, flowing at 2440 cfs, which as moved the trout to softer waters. This weekend, we took part in the monthly trail maintenance day at Johnny Behind the Rocks in Lander, Wyoming. Lander Mountain Bikers and the BLM have partnered in maintaining, re-routing, and trail building to legitimize Johnny Behind the Rocks as Lander’s first real mountain biking trail system. We cannot be happier than to see this partnership and creating real single track trails. Watch out Fruita!

Spring fly fishing in Northwestern Wyoming is definitely as good, if not better than the hot summer months. The baetis are definitely producing rising fish and are in swing.

We had the good opportunity to float and demo the new StreamTech Salmon Fly fishing raft/drift boat this weekend. Having only rowed hard boats before, I was excited to see what the rafts could do. I was thoroughly impressed with their tracking, maneuverability, and lightness. Definitely fishing machines! Dunoir Fishing is looking at one of these for those hard to reach waters.
